[김천=황악신문] 김천시선거관리위원회는 최근 선거를 앞두고 특정 후보자에게 유리한 기사를 게재한 혐의로 김천 지역 언론사 대표 A씨를 경찰에 고발했다고 15일 밝혔다.

A씨는 지난 2월 제22대 국회의원 선거 김천시선거구 입후보 예정자 B씨에게 유리하도록 선거 관련 기사를 발행한 것으로 알려졌다.

이와 관련해 평소보다 약 2배 많은 부수를 인쇄하고, 이전에는 신문이 배포되지 않던 구역까지 배포 영역을 확장한 것으로 전해졌다.

공직선거법 제95조 및 제252조 제3항에 따르면, 선거에 관한 기사를 게재한 신문을 통상적이지 않은 방법으로 배부하는 것을 금지하고 있으며, 이를 위반할 시 3년 이하의 징역 또는 600만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.

선관위 관계자는 선거일이 다가옴에 따라 선거 참여자들의 공직선거법 준수와 유권자들의 적극적인 신고 및 제보를 요청하며, 공정한 선거 문화 조성을 위한 협조를 당부했다.

Kimcheon Area Newspaper Representative Charged by Police for Articles Favoring Specific Candidate

[Kimcheon=Hwangak News] The Kimcheon City Election Commission announced on the 15th that they had filed a police complaint against Mr. A, a representative of a local newspaper in Kimcheon, for publishing articles that allegedly favored a specific candidate ahead of the upcoming elections.

Mr. A is accused of publishing election-related articles in February, which were favorable to Mr. B, a candidate expected to run in the 22nd National Assembly election for the Kimcheon electoral district.

It has been reported that, related to this, the newspaper printed about twice the usual number of copies and expanded its distribution to areas where the newspaper had not previously been distributed.

According to Article 95 and Clause 3 of Article 252 of the Public Official Election Act, it is prohibited to distribute newspapers containing election-related articles in non-conventional ways. Violations can result in imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to six million won.

As the election day approaches, an official from the Election Commission urged participants to comply with the Public Official Election Act and called for active reporting and whistleblowing by voters to help create a fair election culture.
